My work explores the shifting nature of perception and the fluid relationships between the body, water and colour.

Observing and responding to the surrounding environment, I work through an intuitive and responsive process in which perception and gesture remain in constant movement. The drawing marks are elusive and flickering. Characterised by irregular, winding gestures, broken rhythms and shifting intensity, they move between fine, delicate traces and bold, sweeping strokes. Rather than defining forms, they wander, intersect and dissolve into the surrounding washes, registering momentary experiences of looking.

Colour, meanwhile, behaves fluidly. Watery pigments bleed, collide and merge into one another, creating indistinct boundaries, delicate layers and unpredictable tonal transitions. An experience of painting in the rain brought an important realisation: as water moved the pigments across the surface, the distinction between my own gestures and the movement of water began to dissolve. My actions affect the water, while the water, in turn, transforms the colours and informed my subsequent movements.

This process reflects my understanding of colour and perception as inherently elusive and impossible to define conclusively. I am drawn to encounters in which different colours, perceptions and experiences do not remain separate, but intermingle and transform one another. Their differences do not necessarily disappear; traces of their encounters remain within the painting.

Through this exchange, I explore my work as a space where bodily gesture and material movement become entangled, and where boundaries are continually shifting rather than fixed.
